A loan helped to purchase a car and serve tourists with a transportation service.

Irma's story

Irma is from the village of Sartichala, where she lives with her son. The family is engaged in dairy farming and sells milk products locally. Her son is an electrician and does private activities.

In the region there is a high unemployment rate, but self-employment helps inhabitants to make living. So, Irma decided to start a tourism business with the loan, but her credit request was rejected several times, as she was unable to satisfy their requirements because of low income. She received the credit in the framework of a joint initiative of Kiva and Credo, a Startup Program that gives rural poor people the chance to start or re-start businesses.

Irma wants to purchase a car and serve tourists with transportation. This will give her a chance to earn additional income and make a better lifestyle for the family.

This loan is special because:

It allows low-income students to pursue education and find jobs before repaying.
