Samart's story

Samart is an artisan from Thailand who specializes in handcrafted jewelry. He would like to invest in the raw materials required to expand his inventory.

Samart has been selling through NOVICA since 2014. This is his story:

"I grew up in a large farming family. In our free time we did wood turning. When I was 10, my village was the first to get electricity. Artisans from nearby would come to use the electrical tools at my house. The atmosphere was very energetic, with artists exchanging ideas about technique and design. I loved watching them and would sometimes try the lathe on scraps of wood. Eventually, I could help my family as a professional turner. As my village prospered, investors bought much of the farmland for houses. Now I do wood turning full time. In addition to furniture components, I craft bracelets. My daughter has practiced on the lathe since 9th grade. She turns small pieces such as lotuses for worship, drawer handles, etc., and sells work at a market in Sankamphaeng to pay for her education and personal expenses. Nowadays, I give back as a village representative and as a village health volunteer coordinating with public health agencies to improve health care in the community."

"Thank you for helping me build up my business. I appreciate your kind support."
