A loan helped a single mother to buy high-quality certified seeds and fertilizer in order to improve production, generate more income and improve her quality of life.

Milcah's story

Milcah is a 27-year-old single mother of five, and is arguably one of the most successful Juhudi Kilimo clients. Juhudi Kilimo is a microfinance institution that deals only with smallholder farmers in rural parts of Kenya.

Her family's main income source is milk from their dairy farm, but they also do other activities, including growing maize.

Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the pillar of the agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizers and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers attest that there has been a significant improvement of available inputs.

Milcah is requesting a loan to buy farm inputs such as certified seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers.

Your loan will enable her to improve her production through their use, which will help her meet the increasing demand for food in the marketplace, generate more income to repay the loan, and improve her family's quality of life. She also hopes to improve the condition of her house.

Help this mother with a loan.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
