A loan of $575 helped she will buy alpaca wool to use for crocheting her blankets.

Lidia's story

Mrs. Lidia is a new customer who previously worked with “Primavera de Mercurio” (Spring of Mercury) Community Bank. She has shown herself to be very responsible. She is determined to build a larger workshop. She is very enterprising. Her workshop and home have a familiar character. Along with her husband Osvaldo, who is an interprovincial salaried driver, she sells her product in the mining areas. She sells her blankets to salespeople at the markets in the highlands. She sells her blankets in the morning and constructs them in the afternoon. She makes handmade, crochet blankets out of alpaca wool. (The alpaca is delicate footed herd animal with a slim body covered with fiber that she gathers for fleece. They have padded feet that allow them to tread lightly on the grass. The animals don’t damage the ecology of the region or cause erosion. Alpaca wool is high quality. For many hundreds of years other countries have tried to acquire alpacas. Foreign countries have not been able to maintain alpaca herds. Alpacas don’t reproduce unless they live on open land. Perú and Bolivia have signed international treaties in order to assure their monopoly over the alpaca, as they are their national legacy.) She sells her blankets to the wholesale and retail markets, depending on the requests that she has. With this loan she will buy wholesale alpaca wool and use it to make her blankets. Her major goal is to grow her business and have her own house. She is very thankful to Emprender and Kiva for the confidence they have given her by granting her this loan.
