A loan of $625 helped to buy glasses and hats.

Francisca Margarita's story

The Communal Bank, María Monserrate meets in the city of Montecristi, located 20 minutes from the capital Portoviejo. We traveled to speak to various members of the Espoir Foundation (Kiva’s field partner) and Mrs. Francisca L. told us about her work.

Mrs. Francisca is a single mother with 2 children. She is in the informal sector and sells glasses and hats in different beaches of the country. She has been in this business for 6 years, and buys her goods in the same city where she lives. Francisca very early in the morning works by going city to city to sell; she goes to the beaches mostly during the weekends since there are more tourists.

Sometimes she has to invest 1.000 dollars because there are times during the year that she sells more and she needs to stock her merchandize, she also tells us that the worse season for her sales is during holy week.

For now, Mrs. Francisca wishes to keep working as she has done to give her children a better quality of life.
