A loan helped to buy mulberry for her tapa-making business.

Mele'ana's story

Meet this 24-year-old single lady named Mele'ana. She lives together with her older sister and her mother.

Mele'ana runs a business of tapa making, where she is joined by her sister and her mother, as well as some other women in their village. They conduct their tapa making on Friday of every week. For the rest of the week, Mele'ana is preparing her soft tapa, for the next tapa making.

She can also sell soft tapa, both in the market area and also to their tapa-making group. Mele'ana also decorates her own tapas; then she is helped by her sister in sending her tapas overseas. Sometimes random people buy her tapas.

She is hoping to use her loan money to buy mulberry for her tapa-making business.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
