A loan of $750 helped to buy sacks of charcoal, "Pur Water" water and phone recharge cards.

Odette's story

Odette A. is married to Jean ATINDOGBE, an electrician. She's the mother of two school-attending children. The family has been living for 14 years in Godomey, in the city of Abomey Calavi. The couple supports the various family expenses together. Odette stopped attending school at the secondary level. To support herself, Odette sells charcoal at her home. In parallel, she also sells iced water, "Pur Water", and phone recharge cards.

Odette gets her charcoal supplies in Abomey, in Zou Department in Benin. But she purchases the recharge cards in Cotonou, the economic capital of Benin. She's been running this business for approximately ten years, and she's an existing client of Kiva's partner, ALIDé. Odette repaid her previous loans without problems. But she experienced low sales during her previous loan. In order to bolster her business and increase her revenue, and therefore her income, Odette is seeking another loan from ALIDé.
