Odette gets her charcoal supplies in Abomey, in Zou Department in Benin. But she purchases the recharge cards in Cotonou, the economic capital of Benin. She's been running this business for approximately ten years, and she's an existing client of Kiva's partner, ALIDé. Odette repaid her previous loans without problems. But she experienced low sales during her previous loan. In order to bolster her business and increase her revenue, and therefore her income, Odette is seeking another loan from ALIDé.

A. Odette est mariée à ATINDOGBE Jean, un électricien. Odette est mère de deux enfants qui sont tous scolarisés. La famille vit depuis 14 ans environs, à Godomey dans la commune d'Abomey Calavi. Le couple assure ensemble les différentes charges de la famille. Odette a arrêté l'école au cours secondaire. Pour assurer ses multiples besoins, Odette vend du charbon de bois à son domicile. Parallèlement à cette activité, Odette vend également de l'eau glacée "Pur Water" et des cartes de recharge téléphonique. C'est à Abomey, dans le département du Zou au Bénin, que Odette s'approvisionne en charbon. Mais Odette achète ses cartes de recharges à Cotonou, capitale économique du Bénin. Odette exerce cette activité depuis une dizaine d'année et est une ancienne cliente de ALIDé. Odette a bien remboursé les crédits antérieurs qu'elle avait obtenu de ALIDé. Mais Odette a connu une mévente lors de son crédit antérieur. En vue de renforcer son activité et d'augmenter son chiffre d'affaire et par conséquent son revenu, Odette sollicite un autre crédit auprès de ALIDé.

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients.
