Villa Ingavi Group's story

The central office of German Busch is located in an area far from the city centre of El Alto. The Villa Ingavi Association works out of this office and is made up of nine women. The women who have belonged to the association the longest have already completed 15 loan cycles (eight and a half years). They have a variety of businesses: selling fruit, llama meat, hat making, food sales, skirt weaving, poncho and macrame sales, juice selling, and clothing sales.

29-year old señora Virginia Q. has been a member for six years. She is friendly, a little shy, and says that she is married and the baby she is holding is her fifth child. Virginia has an internet games store located in the Villa Ingenio neighbourhood near her house. She needs a loan to buy more video cards which are used in the computers. Her first loan was for Bs.800, and this time she is asking for Bs.1,500.

In the photo seven of the women can be seen, and Virginia Q. is the one getting her baby to go to sleep. Señora Florencia Q. isn’t in the photo because when it was taken, she was a long way from the site chosen and couldn’t get there because of painful feet.

In this group: Virginia, Bernabe, Florencia, Jesusa, Elvira, Margarita, Aida, Irene Susana, Juana
