Xavier Rodrigues's story

Xavier Rodrigues G. was born in the city of Maputo in the province of the same name, in the south of Mozambique. He is 49 years old, and is a married father of 8 children, who are ages 27, 24, 20, 18, 14, 11, 7, and 5. Four of his children attend school. Xavier only finished 7th grade himself and was unable to continue due to lack of finances. He lives in his own home with his family and doesn't support anyone else.

He left Maputo for Boane to look for a job, and later secured his housing and married. He has had his own business for more than 2 years. He has one employee and also counts on the help of two of his children. He earns a monthly income of about 5,000MT, which he uses to pay for his household expenses and he is also able to save some in his Barclays account.

He's never had a loan through another bank. He came to know Hluvuku through his colleagues who are also long-time clients of the institution. This is his 2nd loan, for the amount of 20,000MT, and he plans to use this loan to purchase products (beer, soft drinks, hamburgers, and others) to increase the quantity of merchandise he offers. He promises to make his loan repayments dutifully so that he may access future loans to expand his business even further.
