Camisha's story

My passion for cake making began when I was 13 after watching a cake show on the Food Network. At 18 I became a professional cake decorator working at various bakeries California while also making cakes from my home. In late 2016, my Mom suddenly died of an undetected cancer that was already in stage 4. Over the next 12 months, 5 other family members had also passed. After these adversities, I came to the realization that life is truly precious and decided to take a leap of faith. In June of 2019, I officially open Camisha's Cakes in San Francisco California.

The best part about making cake art, is seeing the reactions of those who see my creations. It’s my most sought-after goal in the making of each cake - while affirming a sense of pride in my abilities. With a Kiva investment, my goal is to create a stable and profitable business that I could support a future family with. Currently, however; my Dad is suffering from a severe form of Rheumatoid Arthritis and kidney failure. When he needs me, I would like to be able to care for and support my Dad, just as he did for me. Camisha’s Cakes is more than turning a passion into a career - it’s the ability and permission for me to be present for my loved ones who are still with me. A way I can provide and give back to my Dad.

This loan is special because:
