A loan helped a member to build a new corral for her animals as well as buy feed, vitamins and dewormers.

Estrellas De Xetrubala Group's story

Many of the 30,000 ladies who participate in the Friendship Bridge “Microcredit Plus” program lack formal education. They share common goals of being successful entrepreneurs, raising the standard of living for their families and educating their children. Dominga is one of these women. She is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Estrellas de Xetrubala” along with 8 other ladies. Dominga is 62 years old, married and the mother of 8 children all over the age of 18. She has raised pigs for many years and with her income, was able to send her children through primary school. She is requesting her 1st Kiva loan to construct a new corral (wood, metal sheeting), and buy feed, vitamins, and dewormers.

The women benefit greatly from their monthly educational trainings that cover an aspect of 4 topics: business, health, family, and women. They learn about effective business management methods, how to effectively care for their families and empower themselves. The trainings are designed by a Facilitator who uses pictures, diagrams, role playing and games to share the information. The ladies are eager to learn and often share the information with family members and friends. Every other month, they have access to health care services.

It would be impossible for these women to access credit in a financial institution. Kiva investors, partnering with Friendship Bridge, are greatly appreciated by all the ladies in the group.
