Ana Milena's story

Ana Milena M. M. (pictured with Christina from the Kiva team) is 26 years old, married, has a four month old son, and resides in the subdivision of La Playa, which is a rural area of Barranquilla. She lives in a rented house with her parents, where she also has a space set aside for her business called “Sala de Belleza Milena M.” (Milena M.’s Beauty Parlor). There she offers a variety of services such as hairstyling, manicures, pedicures, and haircuts. Milena began cutting hair six years ago and started her own beauty salon four years ago with the help of her parents. She now has 120 established clients and several others who come to her shop occasionally. Milena also provides home services.

She has been affiliated with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo since 2008 and her previous loan was used to buy equipment for her work, which was a great help to her. In addition, she has different administration skills she desires to keep up to date so she attends seminars to refresh her knowledge. Milena is requesting a loan of 2,300,000 COP to buy a backwash station (for shampooing hair), salon chairs for adults and children, and a minisplit (a small air conditioning unit). With the development of her business, she hopes to fulfill her dreams: open her own beauty salon in Barranquilla and purchase the house that is being rented by her parents.
