Mata De Palma En Desarrollo 1,2 Group's story

Martha is the coordinator of her group “Mata D. Palma en Desarrollo 1,2 Group” (Palm Tree in Development), and her story is representative of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican clients generally (many of whom recently emigrated to the Dominican Republic from Haiti). Her group is located in the rural areas surrounding Hato Mayor, an agricultural area where running water (none of which is potable) and electricity are unreliable. She makes her home there in a simple structure with her long-term partner and their two children.

Martha is excited to be taking her eighth loan with Esperanza after having successfully repaid her previous loan and grown her business. She plans to use this loan to invest in her business selling clothing and Avon beauty products by purchasing creams, deodorants, makeup and blouses to sell.

Martha will use the profits to invest in repairing her rented home as well as purchasing a computer for her children to learn on. Her long-term goal is to purchase her own home. She thanks you all for your support.

In this group: Martha, Maria, Santa, Felipe, Agustina, Juan*, Valeria, Nieves, Petronila, Maria
