Sorbeh Group's story

Mariatu M., pictured on the left, is the leader of this group of entrepreneurs. The 40-year-old sells sugar, cigarettes, sweets, biscuits, mints, water, etc. She has been a businesswoman for 5 – 6 years now. She and her colleagues are seeking from Kiva lenders a loan of SLL 3,300,000 in order to invest in their businesses. Mariatu will use her share of the loan, SLL 800,000, to buy the above-mentioned items in wholesale to add to her current stock.

Mariatu M. was born in Waterloo, where 'Shine on Sierra Leone' has partnered with SMT to start a branch. She is married with 5 children. Her husband is a security guard and three of her children are attending secondary school, while two are adults.
