A loan helped fund the startup of an esthetic spa.

Tanea's story

I am 20 years old from Louisville, KY. I grew up as an only child. I have always had entrepreneurial ways. Starting in 5th grade I would hand make box string key chains and sell them to my friends and family. My grandmother also helped to bring out my creativity. My grandmother and I would go to craft stores to buy jewelry supplies and handmake our own jewelry. We would make beaded bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. Once the jewelry was made we would go out looking for customers to buy our jewelry. I even had a little receipt book to keep track of my sales. This was only the beginning. As time went on and I got to high school, starting junior year I decided to start up a cosmetic company. I put so much time, research and product testing into my cosmetic company. During my senior year I had a successful cosmetic company up and running. I felt pressured to go to college by my parents, even though I knew I wanted to just focus on my cosmetic business. I went to community college for a year just to see how it would be. I liked college but I felt it was not truly what I wanted to do.

Last year I had a moment where I realized I am going to live my life for myself and go to beauty school no matter what anyone thought about it, I had a plan. I enrolled in Esthetics school in October 2018. It was 750 hours (6 months) of school. I applied to take my state board exams right away so I could become a licensed Esthetician. This journey has inspired me to be where I am today with TH Lash & Beauty.
