A loan helped to purchase silk materials for her weaving business.

Heang's story

Mrs. Heang K. (pictured above), age 54, has been married since 1978 and has four children: three sons and one daughter. The eldest son is a security guard, the second daughter weaves silk at home and the other two attend school. The family lives on an island in the Mekong River, about 15 kilometers from Phnom Penh.

Heang has been a silk weaver for 30 years. She sells her finished products to a middleman who then takes them to sell in Phnom Penh market. Her husband used to be a primary school teacher. Because he is old, he is now retired. Heang is requesting her first loan of $600 to purchase silk materials for her and her daughter’s weaving business.
