A loan of $1,000 helped purchase of glass cases to display cosmetics in a store within her house.

Silvana Patricia's story

Mrs. Silvana S. is a member of the communal bank Maluay. She lives in the suburbs of the city of Cuenca, around 30 minutes from the Maulay community in the Valle province, which is known for being the greatest producer of corn and potatoes as well as having beautiful mountainous Ecuadorian landscapes. Her business is the sale of AVON products (cosmetics), which she has been running for 3 years and now has a loyal and constant clientèle who she visits in their homes. She also has a small stand in her house where she offers home goods and decorations.

This will be her third loan cycle from this great group of strong women who make up her communal bank, which she joined thanks to encouragement from her aunt and her husband's cousin. She tells us that her loans have helped her to cover her household expenses and to slowly but surely grow her business.

Silvana is 21 years old, married with one child, and two months pregnant. Her husband works in a hardware store. The house they live in is owned by some family members who do not charge them rent.

With the new loan from FUNDACION ESPOIR, Silvana is going to buy class cases for the cosmetics stand in her house, with the goal of one day being able to afford to build her own home.
