A loan helped to gain access to cost-efficient hybrid seeds and fertilizer for crop cultivation.

Lilian's story

Lilian, a 67-year-old mom of six children with two going to school, a rural smallholder farmer is married to a fellow farmer. They have lovely children. The family lives in the Kitale area of Kenya. Their main income source is milk from their dairy farm, but they also farm corn.

The biggest problem that farmers from Lilian’s remote village face is the huge deficit in access to agricultural inputs, meaning that farmers' yields and incomes are far below what they could be. Juhudi Kilimo has partnered with Kiva to provide financial services to smallholders around Kenya. Through these services, farmers from villages like Lilian’s can now buy productive assets and important agricultural inputs for use on their farms.

Lilian is seeking a loan to buy quality farm inputs such as seeds and fertilizer. Your loan will enable her to improve her production through the use of such inputs. This intervention will help her fill the increasing demand for food in the market and, in the process, generate more income to repay the loan debt and improve the quality of life for her family.

Her hope is to build a modern house that has clean water and electricity. Help this mother with a good credit history to accomplish her dreams with a loan!

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
