A loan of $475 helped to buy fertilizers.

Graciela's story

Graciela, 48, is a very responsible woman; she lives with the father of her only son in a rustic house built on her farmlands.

Ever since she was a young child, she worked alongside her parents doing farming chores; she enjoys her work very much. She, together with her husband, goes to their fields very early because the figs, apples and mangoes she produces require care. In addition, she gathers "cochinillas" (cochineal, an insect used to produce a natural dye) off prickly pears sometimes gathering up to a kilogram a day, that she sells for between 150 and 200 soles. While they wait for harvest time of their fruits, they collect these little animals because they are in high demand. This is how this couple earns their livelihood and are able to pay for their son's education in the city. For the future, Graciela hopes to buy a lot in the city to be closer to her son so that she can insure that he has everything he needs.

This is her 5th loan with MFP; she has repaid all her previous loans on time and she attends all the group meetings.

She will use these funds to buy chemical fertilizers for her fruit crops.
