A loan helped to buy a threshing machine to sell seeds to other small farmers in her community in order to increase the income to her family.

Aida's story

Aida is a 25-year-old Mozambican woman. She is married and she lives with her husband and their lovely single son.

Aida works as a volunteer teacher in her community. She likes to teach people to read and to write. Besides teaching, she is also passionate about agriculture. Together with her husband, Aida produces veggies and grains in her portion of land.

Aida's husband used to travel to other villages in order to supply the products she produces in the market. Sometimes, the amount of products decreases due to lack of seeds since they can only have seeds in the city. Many small farmers face the same challenge; sometimes, they give up producing certain crops because they do not have enough money to travel to the city.

To solve her challenge, Aida needs to have a threshing machine in order to produce seeds for herself and also to sell to other small farmers in her community - this is why she is requesting a Kiva loan. She hopes to be able to increase the income for her family.

This loan is special because:

It gives smallholder farmers access to productive equipment and new markets.
