Filomena Ines's story

Filomena Inês Jorge C. was born in the District of Massinga, Inhambane Province, in southern Mozambique. She is 35 years old, married and childless. She only finished 9th grade; she did not continue with school because her parents could not afford it. She lives in her own house with her husband, who works in construction, and she does not support anyone else.

She went to live in Nampula with her aunt and uncle after losing her parents. She left to come to Maputo 10 years ago. She has had her own business for more than 10 years. She has no employees and works without a fixed schedule, depending on her customers' movements. She earns close to 8,500 meticais per month, which she uses for household expenses, and saves money on a weekly basis through Xitique (a traditional rotating savings system).

She never had loans from other banks. She learned about Hluvuku through friends who are also customers of this institution. This is her sixth loan. She is asking for 25,000 meticais to buy products (beer, soft drinks, wine and other products) to increase and diversify her inventory. The previous loans were for 5,000 meticais, 8,000 meticais, 10,000 meticais, 15,000 meticais and 15,000 meticais, all for the same purpose.

She promises to pay off this loan on time so she may have access to other loans. In the future she would like to ask for more loans to apply to her business activity.
