Angelica Alberto's story

Angelica Alberto T. was born in the city of Maputo, in the province of the same name in the south of Mozambique. She is 30 years old and married with no children. She studied through 12th grade, and didn't continue because of a lack of financial resources. She lives in a service workers' house with her husband, who is also a teacher, and she helps support a nephew who lives with her.

Angelica left Maputo for Boane due to a job transfer. She has worked as a teacher in the Boane district for more than 2 years, and is employed by the Ministry of Education. She works around 8 hours a day. She has no employees working for her and takes home a monthly salary of 4822.00 Meticales, which she uses to cover household expenses. She is sometimes able to save some money in her bank account.

Angelica has never taken out a loan with another bank. She found out about Hluvuku [the Kiva Field Partner] through colleagues of hers who also work with the institution. This is her 1st loan, for the amount of 15,500.00 Meticales. She plans to use this money to buy construction materials (zinc plates, cement, a wheelbarrow and other items) in order to start construction on her house.

She promises to repay the loan as indicated in order to be eligible for other loans later. In the future she would like to apply for more loans to continue with her home construction project.
