A loan of $550 helped to buy chicks, corn, nutritionally balanced feed and vitamins.

Mariana De Jesus's story

Mariana S. is a member of the “Haciendo un Mundo Mejor” (Building a Better World) communal bank. She is a tenacious woman who is always looking after her family’s future. This is her third loan with the foundation. She became aware of the institution thanks to a neighbor and to her daughter, who became a member before she did, and invited her to participate in the bank.

Mariana raises farm animals like: cows, chickens, goats, guinea pigs. She sells them on Thursdays at the Cuenca free cattle market. Sometimes she also sells them from home to her neighbors; she also farms her own farmlands.

She lives in Turi parish, Santa Anita. She is 43 years old, married, and has 4 children, who are 25, 24, 23 and 10 years of age. Her first and third sons are married and live independently with their own families. Her 24-year-old daughter is single and is employed; she helps out economically both with household expenses and with educational costs for her younger sister. Her husband is in construction, an occupation that has made it possible for him to get his family ahead in live and, through much sacrifice, to build their own home.

She will use the new loan to buy chicks, corn, nutritionally balanced feed and vitamins for the birds and to enlarge her business.

Her goal is to gradually increase her chicken and guinea pig production so that she can have a large nursery and become a distributor of them.
