A loan helped to buy more charcoal and bricks to sell.

Dorothy's story

Meet 51-year-old Dorothy. She is a married mother with 6 children; they are presently in school and all live at home. In order to help her husband support their children, Dorothy sells charcoal and bricks. She learned this trade from her sister and her husband gave her money to start the business. She uses a car to transport supplies to her business site. She sells Monday through Saturday and likes her business because it gives her profits each day she sells.

To maintain her business, Dorothy applied for a loan through BRAC Liberia, a KIVA Field Partner, to buy more charcoal and bricks to sell in order to generate greater profits. In the future, she wants to continue her children's education. She wishes to say thanks to BRAC and KIVA.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
