Kalamera Group's story

These small-scale businesswomen have come to SMT/Kiva lenders for a loan of SLL 1,200,000 for each person in order to expand their businesses in size and quality. In this way, they can make more sales, earn more profit, and consequently improve their families’ well-being.

On the right in the photo is the group’s leader, Rugiatu C.. Rugiatu who was born in Makeni, is age 33, single with 2 children – 1 in primary school and 1 in secondary school. For quite a number of years now, Rugiatu has been selling market food – rice, salt, Maggi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), "gari" (cassava grits), etc. With her share of this loan, she will buy bags of rice, 'gari', salt and packets of Maggi cubes.
