A loan of $1,100 helped to purchase corn, insecticide, and fertilizer.

Sergia Margarita's story

Señora Sergia Margarita has belonged to the communal bank, "Everest" for a year and a half. Her mother invited her to join and told her good things about Fundación Espoir. She works as a dressmaker in her home, where she has a small workshop. She has made clothing for all of the community for 17 years, including school uniforms and clothing for every occasion. Her children help her with the housework while she sews. She has done this work since she was single. Her husband has another job and together they work to take good care of their children.

With this new loan, she will invest in corn, which she has been growing for several years. To grow it, she needs insecticide and fertilizer and labor, and she will also use the loan to pay for some day laborers. Her dream is to be able to buy a professional sewing machine to help her with her work, since she has an older machine that makes finishing her clothing difficult. With the modern machine, she would have higher demand and would be able to make more profit. She sews during the week, and on the weekends, she delivers her clothing, and she doesn't like to leave her customers unhappy.
