A loan of $350 helped to pay his suppliers and buy more fish.

Galo Raul's story

Mr. Galo Raúl brings us the opportunity to know the way in which he makes his living. He says it is thanks to his mother that he joined the Fundación and he feels good working with the loans that he receives. Currently, he is part of the Aníbal San Andrés communal bank in the city of Montecristi in the province of Manabí.

For the past 15 years, Mr. Galo has worked in commercial fishing. He began young, working for his father. He accompanied him to work and, in this way, learned the business. When he came of age, he went independent and started his own business. Since then he has not stopped working. Now that he has his own family, he shares the trade with his children. The oldest is 14 years old and goes with him to work. The work starts at 4 in the morning. Every day he has to travel to Manta beach where the boats arrive and buys the fish. Once the negotiation is complete he begins the route through the rural areas of Montecristi.

Mr. Galo works Monday through Saturday. For transportation, he rents a three-wheeled motorized vehicle. With this new loan he will pay his suppliers and buy more fish in order to grow his business now that they are increasing the price of fish.

Mr. Galo’s dream is to be able to buy himself a small car in order to transport his business to the areas along his route. This would be a great help.
