Maria Gertrudiz's story

The Mujeres Progresistas communal bank was founded in the city of Cuenca. This city is known for it’s architectural beauty in the Historical Center, the natural beauty of Cajas National Park, the four rivers that bath the capital city Cuenca, it’s people and it’s culture which are it’s best introduction. It has become one of the places most visited by national and foreign tourists.

Mrs. María Pérez is an active member of the Mujeres Progresistas communal bank. It’s a group of enterprising women prepared to get ahead for their families through team work and cultivating above all the friendly feeling there is among all.

María works as a beauty consultant for YANBAL products. She has already been working in this for 15 years. She mentioned to us that the sales are low at the moment and she has almost no profit. But thanks to her faithful clientele she hopes everything improves. She also told us that she is one of the founding members of the communal bank. She has been in it for 12 years. It was Mrs. María Ortega who encouraged her to become part of this beautiful group and gain access to the loans granted by the Foundation. Since then she has invested the loans she applied for in her business to increase stock little by little for her demanding clientele.

She is 69 years old and lives outside the city of Cuenca with her husband who is a taxi driver, the last of three children she has and an 18-year-old granddaughter since her parents are living abroad. They send money for her education and board. The house they live in is the fruit of their efforts in their youth as a married couple.

With the new loan she applied for she will buy lip sticks, perfumed creams, treatments, costume jewelry, etc. and Yanbal to fill her customers’ orders. Her big dream is to count on good health in order to keep working.
