Damira's Group's story

Nowadays it is more and more common to see people who react to their problems by constantly complaining and blaming others. It is human nature to seek fault with someone else, and usually people find someone or something to blame: their boss, the government, life in general, anything but themselves. Nevertheless, there are people who, instead of assigning blame, do their best in order to change their lives for the better. All members of the group being presented is middle-class. No one has any special financial advantage. The leader of the group is Damira B.. She is 32 years old. She is married and lives with her family in the town of Karabalta. In order to help her husband meet the family expenses, three years ago she started a business retailing various everyday goods (foodstuffs, matches, salt, sugar etc). Before launching this business, she discussed it with her sister, and they invested their savings jointly. Now, three years later, Damira has a monthly income of 8,000 somos ($180). Moreover, her business made it possible for her to buy a car. Now Damira needs a loan. She needs it in order to buy a new stock of goods for the upcoming season of spring holidays. In the future, she hopes to buy a retail kiosk.

In addition to Damira, there are three more individuals in this group: Alfiya F. is 31 years old. She is married and has two children. The older son goes to school; the younger one is still in pre-school age and stays at home. Alfiya’s husband is a welder. He provides welding services, making iron gates, grills and ovens. Sometime ago he was working as a welder’s assistant, but later he decided to work independently. Now Alfiya’s husband is in need of a loan. He needs to purchase work supplies.

Jyldyz B.-K. is 27 years old. Jyldyz’ husband works in a private company. Jyldyaz has two children. The children are still young, and so it mostly falls to the husband to provide for the family. He also resells sheep on the side. Jyldyz is hoping to obtain a loan in order to buy sheep for resale.

Bekjan S. is 23 years old. He is single, and his business is passenger transport. Three years ago he and his brother bought a car and started a taxi business. Bekjan also supports his 14-year old sister. He needs funds in order to buy a bull calf to raise.
