A loan of $1,200 helped purchase hens.

Edis José's story

Edis José C. A. is 22 years old and lives with his wife and small son in the community of Santa Fe located in Los Chiles, Alajuela province. This community is located in a mountainous region close to Costa Rica’s northern border. He raises livestock and grows agricultural crops, specifically staple grains, sugar, and oranges.

Edis José raises laying hens and sells his products to his neighbors in the community, who are all quite satisfied with the goods. He is very interested in his work and has seen it grow steadily as demand is constantly increasing.

Edis is currently requesting a micro credit of 656,000 colones to purchase more hens, animal feed, and products to treat illnesses. In this way he hopes to expand his business and increase his quality of life. His business is doing well but due to a lack of capital he has not been able to expand. With this loan he hopes to increase his sales and in turn improve his family’s economic condition.

Edis José is a member of the Empresa de Crédito Comunal Manantial (Manantial Communal Credit Company) in Santa Fe, one of a hundred member organizations of EDESA in Costa Rica. This is his first loan and he hopes to use it to grow both at a personal level and an economic one. Thanks to this type of organization and its credit-enabling mechanisms, he can dedicate more time to productive activities.
