Belgique's story

Ms. Belgique M. is a 36-year old woman who lives in the Wakhinane neighborhood of the suburb of Guediawaye. She has been a shareholder-member of the Baye Laye savings bank since November 2001 and has already repaid two previous loans.

She is a single woman without children but is very ambitious. Ms. M. is a hairdresser by profession. She had eight years of experience during her training. Since obtaining her diploma she has opened a hairdressing salon. At the same time she sells handcrafted "boubous" (long-flowing suits or dresses), wigs and various articles coming from France. Because she moves around a lot, she is often helped by her younger sister, who appears by the way on the photo above. She loves hairdressing and for this reason she turned to it immediately after having failed her "brevet" (school certificate). The times that interest her the most in this activity are those when there are events such as end-of -year celebratons where demand for service is very high. Her greatest desire is to become an internationally renowned haidresser and to be able to carry out her business abroad. The loan agreed by U-IMCEC (a Senegalese association of mutual savings and loans institutions) will motivate her and strengthen her production capacity. The profits she makes will allow her to take care of her personal needs, to be independent and to save.
