A loan of $3,375 helped a member for semi-new and new cell phones.

Esmeralda Group's story

The Esmeralda communal bank is in its 14th loan cycle; that is, it has been part of the German Busch Focal Center for about 7 years. It has 11 members, 10 women and one man.

They are engaged in a wide range of commercial enterprises, such as: the sale of cell phones, food, French fries, machine-woven articles, grocery sales, clothing sales, craftsmaking, rug weaving.

The group president, Margot Gonzalez, 40, is a case in particular. She has sold cell phones for about 10 years now. When she was asked what motivated her to go into this line of work, she stated that it was necessary because she had many children (4 boys and 2 girls). Currently, she continues as a cell phone merchant, together with her husband, in the various markets in the city of El Alto.
