A loan helped to buy fertilizer to improve tea production and help this single mother of four support her beautiful children.

Nancy's story

Nancy is a single mother with four children. Three of her children are in school. Her children mean the whole world to her. Nancy is not a first time borrower and, thanks to previous loans from Kiva, her life is taking a turn. Nancy lives in Kericho and has been practicing mixed farming for eight years, enabling her to comfortably support her children. Through farming, she is able to meet the basic needs of her aging parents and her children.

In Kenya, the agricultural field is one of the most competitive industries, especially due to the high costs of operations necessary to improve farming yield. Such costs include the cost of land acquisition and inputs that have always been high. To meet the high costs of inputs, farmers have been forced to borrow from financial institutions, which sometimes impose very complicated procedures in loans distribution. Some farmers, especially women, end up being disadvantaged.

Nancy is requesting a loan to buy farm fertilizers to improve her tea farming. Her loan will enable her to improve her tea production through the use of quality fertilizers. To others, it might just be a mere loan, but to Nancy this is the biggest opportunity she will have this season that would change her life. Kindly lend to her today and help brighten up her life in this last phase of 2019.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
