A loan helped to buy organic hens and organic feed for them.

Buyae's story

Buyae is 42 years old and has started an organic chicken farm in her native northern Thailand.

She is a member of the Akha tribe in Chiang Rai, Thailand, which is one of the several different ethnic groups who make their homes across the mountain ranges of Southern China, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand.

For her entire life, Buyae has grown vegetables on family land in the mountains near her home.

However, because prices of her goods fluctuate, her income was very unpredictable and was rarely enough to support her family.

Therefore, Buyae decided to work with Hill Tribe Organics to start raising an organic hens farm. This will be her first loan with Kiva.

With this loan, Buyae wants to purchase 700 egg-laying organic hens and organic feed for them to raise on her farmland.

Selling the eggs will provide a regular monthly income for her family and will allow them to clear the family's debt and live a respectable life.

This loan is special because:

It supports vulnerable hill tribe communities in the northern region of Thailand.
