A loan helped us upgrade infrastructure by putting new plastic on greenhouses, thus increasing our winter revenue. It will also help us buy our own haying equipment, improving our self sustainability and saving money on winter feeding.

Clayton's story

I grew up in Battle Creek Michigan in a non agrarian lifestyle but always loved the outdoors. I grew up working with my father in the trades, learning many invaluable skill sets like carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry and many more that would prove very useful in life and farming. I was first exposed to agriculture through my older brother while he attend Michigan state university. I began working at a small organic vegetable farm in high school where I would work for close to five years. From a young age I have always worked for my self, including running a 20 member CSA when I was 17and always doing side work in the trades. I seized the opportunity to start my own farm and business when the opportunity of land access became available. Starting with very little and zero infrastructure on the land we have now built a sustainable business with pastured meats, organic vegetables and prepared foods. We have grown our infrastructure to include driveways, plumbing, electrical, 2 barns, a tractor and over 13000 sq of hoop house space.
Now my dreams are to continue to grow our business into a lasting family farm, help other young farmers get their start and to teach my kids the same work ethic and skills that I was fortunate enough to learn at a young age.
