Benkadi Group
In this Group: Fatoumata Madou , Sogona , Aminata , Atoumata , Demou , Ya , Tata
All seven women from the Benkadi group are married. On average they are 40 years of age with four children, and live in traditional households in the Noukoula neighborhood of Konobougou, in the Baouréli prefecture of the 4th administrative region of Mali. These women got to know each other through family ties and are retailers of various goods, for the most part culinary condiments and cereals.

Having fully repaid their four previous loans, the women from the Benkadi group are now requesting a fifth group loan. They will use it to buy eight tons of cereal (beans, millet, corn, fonio, rice) and a few packages of culinary condiments.

They get their supplies mainly from local producers and wholesalers, and sell their products at the Konobougou market, for cash or on credit, to a customer base of both women and men.

They hope to achieve average monthly earnings of 30,000 FCFA each, which will be used to increase their working capital and contribute to family expenses regarding food, children’s education and healthcare.

Les sept femmes du groupe Benkadi sont toutes mariées. Elles ont en moyenne 40 ans, 4 enfants et vivent toutes dans des familles traditionnelles au quartier Noukoula de la ville de Konobougou, préfecture de Baouréli, quatrième région administrative de la république du Mali.
Ces femmes se sont connues à travers des liens de parenté et font le commerce d’articles divers essentiellement l’achat vente de condiments alimentaires et des céréales.
Après avoir correctement remboursés les 4 prêts précédents, les femmes du groupe Benkadi sont à leur 5 prêt solidaire.
Elles comptent utiliser ce nouveau prêt pour acheter, 8 tonnes de céréales (haricot mil, maïs, fonio, riz) et quelques paquets de condiments alimentaires.
Elles s’approvisionnent essentiellement sur place auprès des producteurs et grossistes et effectuent leurs ventes à Noukoula et au marché de Konobougou, au comptant en détail et à crédit, à une clientèle composée de femmes et d’hommes.
Elles envisagent réaliser chacune un bénéfice moyen mensuel de 30.000FCFA qui servira à étoffer leur fonds de commerce et subvenir aux dépenses ayant trait à la nourriture, à la scolarité des enfants et à la santé.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
