Sherlita's Group's story

Sherlita M. is from the village of Villa Marzo. Sherlita is the group leader of a 6-member group loan offered by ASKI. While each member of the group receives an individual loan, they are all collectively responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Sherlita is 48 years old and married, with 2 adult-aged children. To make a living, Sherlita raises livestock. The main source of income for her business comes from raising pigs for fattening and sale. Sherlita has been in business for more than 2 years and earns approximately 3500 PHP whenever she sells her raised animals. In 2008, Sherlita joined ASKI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Sherlita has successfully repaid a previous loan of 15000 PHP from ASKI, which she used to purchase livestock feed and other supplies. Sherlita is requesting a new loan of 17000 PHP to purchase livestock feed and other supplies. This loan will be the sixth loan taken out by Sherlita from ASKI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve and expand her business. About ASKI: ASKI is one of the most successful microfinance institutions in the Philippines. It has 25 branches covering the Central and Northeastern areas. Its clients are mostly farmers, fishers and small entrepreneurs. *Note: To maximize efficiency and reduce costs, this loan was posted using a template to automate the translation by Kiva.
