A loan helped a member to purchase an ACE1 cookstove to gain access to solar electricity and to save money spent on fuel in order to be able to build her family a better home.

Meropa Group's story

Manketela is a 71-year-old woman who lives in a multi-bedroom house without access to electricity. She has four children. She relies on commercial livestock farming and struggles with home improvement.

Manketela spends the largest portion of her energy expenses on gas, mobile phone charging, and paraffin, which costs up to LSL 752 per month. She also spends as much as eight hours per day gathering fuel and fulfilling other energy needs like phone charging. She normally uses an open fire for cooking and during rainy days she uses gas which costs a lot of money. She warms up her house using paraffin heater which is also very costly. She thinks buying ACE1 cookstove will help to save money for her family so that she can use it for other purposes like paying school fees for her children and also building a better home.

Manketela and the other members of the group in this village each bought the ACE1 cookstove to help them save the money they spend every month on fuel and also to help them access solar electricity for charging their mobile devices any time for free. The ACE1 clean cookstove is biomass- and solar-powered. For more information on the ACE1 cookstove, please visit www.africancleanenergy.com and Facebook@African Clean Energy
