Youhn's story

This is Youhn, 37 years old. She is a single mother with four children, all of whom are in school and live at home. Youhn went to school until second grade. She is a hardworking businesswoman who sells oil, fresh fish, dry fish rice, onions, vita, salt and pepper. She got her initial capital from her brother and her sister taught her how to sell.

For 12 years now, she has been operating her sales. She uses a car to transport supplies to her business site. She likes her business because it gives her more profits on a daily basis and she is proud of her business because it helps to support her children.

Youhn requires a loan through BRAC Liberia, Kiva's field partner. The loan will be used to buy more oil, fresh fish, dry fish rice, onions, vita, salt and pepper to sell in order to repay her loan installment. In the future, she wants to improve her business and continue her children's education. She appreciates BRAC and Kiva for financial support rendered.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
