Susan's story

Hello special people,

Meet Susan, a single mother. With no one to share the day-to-day responsibilities of feeding her children and making important family decisions, Susan ventured into farming. Susan lives with her family and supports them using the proceeds of her farming. She is the sole breadwinner in her household. On the farm, she has dairy cows and a small garden.

Filled with determination to better her family's conditions, while not being deterred by her marital and financial status, Susan has never lost her dream of wanting to achieve. Today, she is kindly seeking another loan to buy quality farm inputs such as seeds and fertilizers to increase her crops’ yields.

Being a single woman makes accessing funds in Africa very challenging, especially around Kerugoya. But Susan feels relieved knowing that institutions such as Kiva help hardworking women like herself. She is always working to improve her family’s living conditions, but her biggest dreams are to become independent and support her family by herself, to secure her children’s future, and scale up their heights of prosperity.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
