Catalina G. is from the village of Langcangan, Mahinog, Camiguin Province. She is 60 years old. Catalina is married. To make a living, Catalina runs a food stall. The main source of income for the business comes from selling a variety of viands (tasty dishes) and other items in the local community. Catalina has been engaged in her business for over 15 years and earns approximately 3,500 Philippine pesos a month for these activities.
In 2008, Catalina joined HSPFI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Catalina has successfully repaid a previous loan of 11,000 PHP from HSPFI. Catalina decided to take a new loan of 11,000 PHP, which will be used to purchase new items to expand her product offering. This will be the fourth loan taken out by Catalina from HSPFI, a Kiva partner. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to supplement the income of her family.
HSPFI is one of the accredited partners of Opportunity International in the Philippines. It is based in Cagayan de Oro City and is reaching out to the poor households of Northern Mindanao.
