A loan of $725 helped purchase of coffee and banana plants.

Adela's story

Adela is a 34-year-old woman. She lives with her husband Basilio (36 years old) and their 5 children: Alber (16), Karen (13), Hellín (10), Evelin (6) and Jack (3). This large family lives in their own house in Peru's central jungle.

For 7 years Adela has grown bananas, coffee and corn with hired help, since her husband cannot often help her. He holds a community position which takes a lot of his time, especially in the mornings, as he has to manage public works like highways, bridges, water and drainage for their area. Adela says proudly, "My husband is well-known and always gets something that is good for my town. He is also a very responsible father and husband because he never makes us do without anything that we need." She used her savings to buy more farmland so she could grow more food (fruits) that are native to the jungle.

This is the fourth loan she has had with MFP, and she is very grateful to the people who make it possible for her to get a loan. She can have a better life because of them and also because of the support of her communal bank. With the money she is asking for now, she will buy coffee plants and banana plants. She will also get fertilizer for her beans, mangoes, pineapple and the other products she grows.
