A loan of $775 helped purchase cement & sand to plaster the walls of her house and build a bathroom.

Zoila Beatriz's story

The Cochapamba Communal Bank was formed by a group of enterprising women who always look for ways to get ahead. This bank is located in the community of Cochapamba in El Valle Parish, which is southeast of the city of Cuenca. This area is known for its production of corn and its great tourist attraction, the Totora Lagoon.

Zoila is 36 years old and lives in the community of San Isidro in Chilcapamba with her husband, who works as a mason, and their three year old daughter. After much work and with great effort, she was able to fulfill her dream of owning a home.

Zoila has been working for a cleaning company for the past month. Her work schedule is from 8:00 to 12:00. She had previously worked for this company for almost three years, but resigned due to personal problems. Her bosses were aware of her situation, so they allowed her to return. In her addition to her job, Zoila raises guinea pigs, pigs, and chickens both for personal consumption and to sell in her community.

Zoila is participating in her second loan cycle thanks to her cousin who convinced her to join this team of enterprising women. With the loan she requested, she plans to buy cement and sand for plastering the walls of her house and to build a bathroom. Her ambition is to see her daughter get ahead in school and become a successful professional.
