A loan of $325 helped a member to repair her motorcycle.


Gomez Group's story

Edelyn G. is from the village of San Vicente. She is 28 years old. Edelyn is the leader of a 2-member loan group sponsored by PMPC. Although each member of the group receives an individual loan, they are all collectively responsible for repaying the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Edelyn is married and has 3 school-aged children. To make a living, Edelyn runs a "motorcycle for hire" transportation service for local community members. Edelyn has been engaged in her business for over 3 years and earns approximately 2,000 PHP a month from these activities. In 2008, Edelyn joined PMPC to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Edelyn has successfully repaid a previous loan of 4,500 PHP from PMPC. This previous loan was used for LTO Registration renewal. Edelyn is requesting a new loan of 6,000 PHP to repair the motorcycle that she uses in the business. This will be Edelyn's fourth loan from PMPC. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve her family's living conditions. About PMPC: Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC is one of the most progressive cooperatives in northwestern Mindanao.
