A loan of $375 helped to buy more menestras (dried legumes) to expand her business.

Cristina's story

Cristina is 39 years old and is a mother to 4 children and lives with her husband in the district of Paiján, province of Ascope, in the region of La Libertad, located 3 hours from the city of Chiclayo.

She has sold menestras (dried legumes) in the city market for over 12 years. She tells us that she had to start this business because her husband's earnings as a farmer was not enough to make ends meet in her home. Everyday Cristina sells menestras in grain and precooked from 8 in the morning until 2 o’clock.

Cristina applied for a loan from Edpyme Alternativa (Kiva’s field partner) for 1000 new soles, and she will invest it to buy more menestras to expand her business since its been in trouble ever since her vesicular operation some months back and she was not able to take care of her business.

Cristina is a very active and hardworking woman. Her biggest wish is to keep growing as an entrepreneur and to give her family a better quality of life. This is her second loan with our institution and she has demonstrated responsibility and punctuality when making her payments.
