A loan helped to purchase additional sasa, beans and other items to sell.

Kumbah's story

This is 48-year-old Kumbah. She is a widow with seven children. All of her children are presently in school and live at home. Kumbah sells sasa, beans, and other items in order to earn a living. She learned how to sell with her own small savings and her mother taught her how to sell.

For the past 23 years, she has been operating her business. She uses vehicles to transport supplies to her business site. She sells five hours each day, Monday through Saturday. To increase her business, Kumbah applied for a loan through BRAC Liberia and their field partner Kiva. The loan will be used to purchase additional sasa, beans and other items to sell to her good clients. She plans to use her profits to give her children good living conditions. She likes her business because it gives her profits. In the future she would like to build her house and continue her children's education. She wishes to say thanks.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
