A loan helped to purchase thread, needles, dyes etc. in order to expand her weaving business.

Sefali's story

Sefali is a 49-year-old married woman living in the Alipurduar district of West Bengal. She lives with her husband and two sons and has a monthly household income of INR 10,000.

She and all three of her family members are engaged in the weaving business. They weave traditional tant products such as tant sarees, gamchhas (towels) etc. Tant garments are woven using cotton and are distinguished by their lightness and transparency. Sefali and her family sell their finished garments to local wholesalers and retailers.

She wants to expand their business in order to increase their household income. So she has applied for a loan of INR 30,000 from BJS, one of Milaap's field partners. She will use the money to buy raw materials such as thread, dyes, needles etc. needed for their business.

She will be much obliged to the lenders.

This loan is special because:

It helps women in financially underserved districts in India maintain and grow their businesses.
