A loan of $1,200 helped to buy a moped.

Elizabeth's story

Elizabeth B. S. is a young woman of 22 years. She lives with her small son in the hamlet of Caño Negro situated in the canton of Los Chiles in Alajuela province. The hamlet is located in mountainous terrain and is very near the northern border of Costa Rica. Farming and agriculture are the area’s main economic activities, with staple grains, sugar cane and oranges as the principal crops. Recently, Elizabeth managed to secure a job in a hotel, but reports that getting to and from work is difficult as a result of the hotel being of considerable distance from her house, local roads being in poor condition, and few public buses. To solve the issue of transport and to be able to save on time and money, Elizabeth has decided to buy a moped. Therefore, she needs a loan of ¢654 (six hundred and fifty four Costa Rican Colons) to buy the moped and to provide her own means of transport. Elizabeth is part of the Communal Credit lending company Emcrecoba, one of the 100 organisations affiliated with EDESA in Costa Rica. This is Elizabeth’s first loan. Elizabeth expresses thanks to these types of organisations and credit facilitators, as they make it possible for her to focus on more productive activities.
