A loan helped to purchase more rice, oil and flour to sell.

Nancy's story

This is 43 years old Nancy. She is a single mother with 5 children; three of whom are in school and all live at home. Nancy is a high school graduate. In order to support her children, Nancy sells rice, oil and flour. She started to sell with money given to her by her mother. For the past 18 years she has been doing this business and she considered herself as hard working business woman. She has no problems with her business. She uses vehicles to transport supplies to her business site on weekends. She sells 9 hours each day, Monday through Saturday. To increase her business, Nancy applied for a loan through BRAC Liberia and KIVA Field Partner The loan will be used to purchase more rice, oil and flour to sell. She plans to use her profits to give her children good living conditions. She likes her business because it gives her money on a daily basis. In the future she wants to build a house for her children. She wishes to say thanks.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
