Salome Marcos's story

Salomé Marcos M. was born in Gaza. She is 44 years old and is a single mother of two daughters aged 24 and 25. Neither of her daughters are in school as they work with her. In addition to her 2 daughters, she also supports her 4 grandchildren who live with them. She is able to save 2.000.00 MT per month.

Salome attended school until the 4th grade because the school she attended ended at that level. Then her professor took her saying that he was going to arrange an opening at another school and he abused her (child rape) and she became pregnant. Salomé was desperate about the situation because her mother threw her out of the house. She left Gaza and moved to Vila de Namaacha on the border with Swaziland with a friend to look for work. After she arrived, she began to work for the governor of the district as a servant, but due to an illness she had to leave her job..

Years later she began working with plants of various species such as Azaelas, Antores and Cacti) because the reproduce easily and valuable. She is a talented florist and has a pretty garden at her house. Today Salomé is one of the most famous florists in the region, selling flowers for clients in the capital, Maputo, and earning approximately 10.000.00 MT per month because in addition to her sales she also has gardening contracts with property owners in town.

This is Salomés third loan with Hluvuku and Kiva. The first loan for 15,000.00 MT was used to purchase agricultural products like seeds and pesticides to improve her flower collection. The second loan, for 10.000.00, was used to increase the reproduction of the same, and this 20.000.00 MT will also be used for the same purpose. She is confident that she will pay her loan before it is due since she has the help of her two daughters.
